Hammer time: Crews have begun work on a 203-unit luxury multifamily complex called Newport on Marina Bend on the northeast corner of Interstate 45 and FM 518 in League City. The work portends a much larger development. Atticus Real Estate is developing the complex, which is meant to be part of a mixed-use project that would include retail, offices, a 100-slip marina, townhouses with water views, restaurants and a boutique hotel.

Atticus earlier this month was preparing to close on the acquisition of 59 surrounding acres to make the larger development a reality, CEO Mark Humphreys said.
Developers for years have had aspirations for the League City tract, with plans for a project called River Bend and before that River Market.

Newport on Marina Bend will be different from any multifamily development League City has seen.

Humphreys describes the design of the complex as modern and edgy. The complex will include a rooftop deck and views of Clear Creek. The entire project encompasses what’s known as a Planned Urban Development that includes housing, recreation and commercial centers contained in one subdivision. When built out, the development will be like a small town, he said.

“It will be a place to live work and play,” he said. While the multifamily complex is underway, the remaining development still is in the planning stages. Stay tuned.
